A Brief History of The Bible

The Bible is not just another book but a collective of different books written by different people over a long time.Clinical psychologist Jordan Peterson says the Bible is a "library" and I could not agree more with his observation .

The first printed Bible according to researchers is the Gutenberg Bible ,this was possible because of the invention of the Gutenberg printing press. There are 66 books in the Holy book .It is widely believed that Moses wrote the first books in the Bible ,namely ; Genesis ,Exodus ,Leviticus ,Numbers and most parts of Dueteronomy ,these books are part of the old testament .Over the years scholars and researchers have come with many theories of who really wrote the books mentioned above and when but this is not really my focus in this writing .

The new testament revolves around the Jesus Christ of Nazareth and his ministry.Books like Matthew ,John and Peter who were disciples of Jesus feature in the new testament.Today almost everyone can access the Bible at anytime but this was not always the case because of language barriers and difference in opinion which even got many people killed over the years .In some parts of the world it is still illegal to own a Bible and is a punishable offence .The translation of the Bible into English and other languages has given us access to that which some of our predecessors could only dream of ,the word of God in imprint .

The have been many doubts about the authenticity of the Holy book ,below are 7 reasons why we should trust the Bible.

(Adapted from 7 Reasons Why You Can Trust The Bible book written by Erwin W. Lutzer )

1.The Bible's claims about itself.

2.The historical reliability of the Bible.

3.The prophetic predictions of the Bible.

4.The claims of Christ concerning scripture.

5.The harmony between science and the Bible.

6.The providence of God in preserving Scripture.

7.The power of the Bible to change lives.

Many regard the Bible as a book created to keep people in "check" and to promote good behaviour ,for instance the Bible says -Do not kill.I do not agree with this point of view I believe it is rather misguided and poorly informed. Atheist's or non- Christians may just assume that the Bible is not true because if they believe God is not real ,how can the Bible be real?

Personally most books that I have read about faith ,finding purpose ,personal development and many other topics are somehow a reiteration of principles that are found in the Bible ,and I believe not that this is just a coincidence .
