The War of Art
Everyday we are in a constant battle, fighting an invisible enemy. When mankind speak about the "enemy", we assume they are talking about the devil, but this is not the enemy I am writing about in this text. The enemy i am writing about is resistance and it aims to stop us from being all that we can be. Wherever there is resistance we seem to give in and quit before we embarrass ourselves.
Resistance comes in many forms , shapes and sizes. Here are a few examples of RESISTANCE'S GREATEST HITS (Adapted from a book titled the War of Art by Steven Pressfield)
1.The persuit of any calling in writing, painting, music, film or any creative art
-We all have a calling to create something (e. g music) but what stands in our way is resistance, we know very well what we are called for but we never take the leap or build a bridge to make it all possible. We end up never getting much done for fear of failure or uncertainty about the turn out of the activity (e.g writing a book ). Ultimately many of us die with our gifts /talents for we fear failure and the invisible enemy that is resistance keeps us stagnant.
2.The launching of any entrepreneurial venture
-Most of us have a business idea or two but we never turn the idea into a reality. We keep dreaming but we never execute.
3.Any diet or health regimen
-We all know that our health is important but most likely than not we putting any activity connected to our health on our to do list but it never gets done (e.g jogging)
4.Any program of spiritual advancement
5.Any activity whose aim is tighter abdominals
These are just a few examples to highlight what seems to stand in our way. Resistance will "tell" you anything that will keep you from taking the necessary action or even postponing it to a later time. Resistance is universal and it has killed many great people and robbed them of their great potential.
One of the wealthiest places in the whole world is the cemetery, for many have died with great wealth, energy, visions and hope that was meant to be released or set loose but resistance stopped them. Resistance never takes a break , which means that we must constantly battle with it.
Ultimately we do not attempt to reach our fullest potential because of resistance.
Take "Sizekale" for instance. Sizakele lives in Accra, Ghana and she works as an executive in one of the top Technology companies. She has a dream of launching her own restaurant, and follow a passion she has had since she was a little girl - The launching of any entrepreneurial venture.
The question is what stands in her way?
RESISTANCE
She is well aware that in order to launch her restaurant she will have to get out of her comfort zone, and take a risk but she gives in to the pressure of the resistance.
Sizakele is sadly not the only "victim" of resistance, we all are.
