The MENTAL Diet

Medical practioners have always said that you are what you eat. My argument is that the same goes for our brains, we become a total sum of what we put into our minds.

We cannot change our output without changing the inputs. Whatever we input into our minds is what comes out on the other end. You cannot feed your mind negative information and then get a positive output. We cannot feed our minds inspirational content and not be inspired

Our mental diet precedes our outlook on life and the results we get.

(a) If you "feed" yourself the word of God you will begin to speak the word.

(b) If you feed yourself gossip you will begin to speak about gossip.

(c) If you listen to music you will begin to (i) sing the music (ii) speak about the music.

(d) If you listen to negative and sad people, you will begin to be negative and sad.

Above are examples to clarify my point and hopefully you can relate to them. This is why if I listen to a "Kendrick Lamar" song, I will begin to post about it and talk about it. Our mental diet begins to control us and our thoughts & conversations. This is the very same reason why preachers can quote scriptures without reading them, for they form a large part of their mental diet.

Most of us are trapped because of our doubts, limiting beliefs and negative thought patterns. Our doubts are as a result of our mental diet, so they come as a signal that we absorbed negative energy concerning absolutely anything. Doubt can be described as a belief in the outcome I do not desire.

My question for you is, what does your mental diet consist of ? And is it good for you or not ?

Some of us feed ourselves negative information, we hang around complainers and doubters hence we become vessels of negativity, pain and depression. Others feed themselves positive information, they surround themselves with believers and doers, hence they become vessels of hope and inspiration.

The mind is the control center, and we all know that a company facing challenges in the "head office" is likely to not Succeed. Author & venture Capitalist Vusi Thembekwayo put it like this "Curate the content you are consuming". This is why some of us are becoming more concerned about the content we consume because we realize it has an effect on our whole life.

One of the fundamental differences between wealthy people & poor people, is the type of content being consumed. This is why the wealthy, do not watch Television as much as the poor... They understand that the content has influence that goes way beneath the surface and embeds itself in the subconscious.

Would you agree with me if I said that the world is as it is because of content? The type of music we listen to, the books we read, the movies we watch & the people we talk to, all influence us somehow. This then means we must begin to pay close attention to our mental diet, if we are to reach new heights.

In his book SOAR, Bishop T. D Jakes wrote a sub chapter titled "A New Model Of Momentum", in which he spoke about how the information that got you where you are is not sufficient to get you to where you desire to be. I want to echo the same sentiment, and suggest that we need to begin feeding our minds different content, if our intent is indeed to move to a different level (dimension).

A new way of "thinking" is predated by a new mental diet. To change the output, change the input.
