Do we need Discipline?

Author and venture capitalist Vusi Thembekwayo once said "winners do not need motivation, winners need discipline" . Discipline is what CREATES CHAMPIONS and a lack of it is what kills champions. Many of us would have already achieved far more than what we have, had we have been more disciplined.

We must hold ourselves accountable for our lives and our success (or lack thereof). We must realize that our life is in our control and that we can steer it in our desired direction. What is it you want from life? Well whatever it is you will need to have discipline, nobody cooks up anything great without this very vital ingredient.

Have you ever heard of the 80/20 rule or the “Pareto Principle “? Well it is a theory maintaining that 80 percent of the output from a given situation or system is determined by 20 percent of the input. The principle doesn’t stipulate that all situations will demonstrate that precise ratio – it refers to a typical distribution.(e.g A 2002 report from Microsoft found that “80 percent of the errors and crashes in Windows and Office are caused by 20 percent of the entire pool of bugs detected.”) The top 20% of people in any space or industry earn 80% of the money and my argument is that this is because the 20% are simply more disciplined than the other 80 %.

A man without discipline is a foolish man and is most likely to be an underachiever in anything that they do. A great man and philosopher by the name of  Jim Rohn once  said that “discipline is the bridge between goals and achievement”. If we want to achieve the extraordinary we must have extraordinary discipline and if we want to achieve the mediocre we must have mediocre discipline and if we want to achieve absolutely nothing at all then we must have no discipline.

Show me men with no discipline and I will show you men who will not achieve much in their lifetime. There is so much evidence in history that proves my theory, everyone has potential but not everyone lives their lives to their fullest potential. Why is it that we can all have potential but only a handful of us seem to tap into it?

Think of any great person you know and analyze their life, you will discover that they would not have reached the levels of success they eventually reached if they did not have discipline. Now what makes you think that you can reach your desired destination without the indelible ingredient that is discipline.?

I believe with great conviction that discipline is the key to success, not education, money or whatever else you have been taught.

A person with money and no discipline is as good as broke but a person with no money but a lot of Discipline is as good as rich

An educated person with no discipline is as good as uneducated but an uneducated person with discipline is as good as a PHD graduate.

An individual with a very high IQ but lacks discipline is as good as the person with the lowest IQ
