Is The Media In Control?
The word media and the word medium can be used interchangeably. This is because the media is in between the sender of the message and the receiver.
We receive information through the media and that information shapes us and influences us in many different ways. The media is the media-tor and it is used to inform and spread a message. Take the newspaper for example, it is our source of information on many different topics.
The Media Controls our thoughts and conversations, even though we may not realize. Most of what we know, think or believe is through media. We all learn a lot of things from the Television programs we watch, we are being "programmed" to believe and act in a certain way. At times we are being programmed to do the right thing and at times the wrong thing.
I was thinking about the power of music and music videos the other day.... A song is not just a "song" but it is a message being sent and broadcasted through media.The song then influences the receiver somehow... So everytime you listen to a song, ask yourself what is the "message" here, And is it building or destroying? Musicians have the power to influence us, this type of influence is not obvious to spot but over time you can see its evidence manifesting through our personal lives.
Remember you cannot release(output) something you didn't capture(input) , so when you listen to a song or watch the music video something is being instilled in you and a certain gospel is being preached to you. Whatever the media puts in our mind will manifest in actions and thoughts. So you and I know that if you fill a glass with water there is no way that water changes and becomes coffee when it's poured out. So your mind in this context is the glass and whatever you put into it is what will come out. If the media is pouring dirt into your mind what do you think will come out? That is why most of us have dirty unclean minds..
I know it may seem like I am against the media but I am not, I just want to make sure we all understand how it works and impacts our lives. Books are also a form of media, someone writes their stories/ideas down and shares them with others. In turn books give us information... What message is in the books you are reading? I ask because that information will leave indellibe marks on your mind. Read The Playboy Magazine enough times,and the explicit pictures will be embedded in your mind, read the Bible enough the powerful Scriptures will dwell into your mind.
Facebook, Twitter and all the other social networks are also a form of media, specifically "Social - media". They were developed to help us connect virtually with the world. Today I can send a message or video to someone in New York in a split second, All thanks to Social Media. Although these platforms allow for faster communication, they also allow for lies and hate to spread just as fast..... And many people believe whatever they read online, and they apply no logic or under-take any research. This is why I encourage you to not take anything on this blog as a "truth" but a thought or opinion.
Everytime you read this blog, ask yourself "what is this the message here, and where is it leading me to?" Realize that I am an advocate of something and a "medium" with a message. I take data from somewhere/someone and process it in my mind then I write down my thoughts.. This information has a source (where I take it from) and a receiver (You), in this context I am the media.
Question a few things about me as a writer of this blog ;
1.Who/what is my source?
2.What is my message?
3.Is the message True or False?
4.What do I aim to achieve by sharing this information?
5.Is the message helping you grow or not?
Dr Myles Munroe once said "Jesus is the mediator between God and Men", he came to bring salvation.He also went on to say that "The media controls the message, not the source or the receiver"
