Unconscious Competence

It is my belief that we all want to be competent at one thing or another depending on our objectives and our long term goals or rather "desires". The big question is how do we get to a level of unconscious Competence ; where we no longer have to think about how to get the job done but simply do it because our body and mind has for lack of a better term "mastered" that particular activity.

There are 4 levels/stages of the competence model : unconscious incompetence, concious incompetence, concious competence and lastly unconscious Competence.

Unconscious Competence is when an individual can do a task without having to think much about it because they have internalized the knowledge in what is called a "knowledge bank". This is when the skill is almost second nature, for instance - making your bed or driving your car.

It is imperative that we reach this stage of competence if we intend to be effective doers and teachers. Take Christiano Ronaldo for instance, he no longer has to think about how to "handle" a soccer ball, he simply does it - it has become second nature to him. By doing something over and over again, it becomes embedded in our minds and bodies. A professional fashion model no longer has to think about how to carry themselves on the runway, they simply do it with ease because their mind & body has adapted over time.

In conclusion whatever you want to master you must do over and over again to a point where you no longer have to spend much time recalling the steps recquired. Take walking for instance, when we are born we did not know how to walk but we learnt over time and did not give up, today we are able to walk with ease unlike when we were babies.
